Kisses is really a sweetheart, as her name would suggest, but she's also not a completely in-your-pocket horse. She's silly and vocal, nickering and whinnying more than a prey animal should evolve to do, always speaking her mind and making her presence known. She's monstrously annoying when it's feeding time, grunting and nickering and pacing back and forth until the grain's in front of her - and even then she makes all sorts of muffled noises while she eats because she's so happy. She can work the entire barn into a frenzy, kind of like she's an alarm for anything happening. People coming? Noisy. New horse arriving? Super noisy. If there's a squeal or fuss from the field, odds are it's Kisses doing the talking. She's kind of a clumsy filly, and sometimes doesn't know where feet are. She clips her toes nearly every time she comes into the barn, and she's constantly banging her hips into the fence post coming in and out of the field. Coupled with the fact she's pretty flighty at times, she should be a walking train wreck - however, she seems to keep herself together in spite of all of it, and has grown up to be quite the gorgeous filly. She's well put together and strong, legs clean and mind sharp. She's a bit of a pushover in the field if there's a big group, so she's generally turned out with one or two other quiet fillies so no one gets beat on. She's a willing horse on the ground and in a work - the only bad habit she seems to have is cow-kicking when the groom goes to pick her hind feet. Rude, but a firm slap calms her down enough to reprimand her. In every other capacity, though, Kisses is pleasant to be around a pleasure to train. Work is a game that she seems to enjoy, and as long as you keep the routine varied for her she'll put her all into learning. Grass gallops, swimming, and even the occasional arena work help motivate her when she's actually out on the track. If she's happy, she'd move heaven and earth for you.
Kisses is obliviously curious in the saddling paddock and post parade, as if she's simply out for a stroll around the farm rather than gearing up for the race. She's skittish at the gate, and that seems to be the point when it really sinks in and she realizes it's race day - so she wastes absolutely no energy ahead of time. She's on her toes in the gate, fidgety and snorting, sometimes even nickering excitedly as she waits for the others to load and the gates to open. When they do, she's off incredibly quickly - but then her timidness shows itself, and she drops back from the charging surge of horses. In a small field she'll stick right on their heels, unbothered. In a large field she drops back a little more, comfortable outside of the mass of runners and biding her time. As the race goes on her confidence builds, and by the time she's asked for her run, she's ready to brave the pack. She's generally taken around the outside of them, but she's able to sneak through if asked. When she breaks through and has clear track ahead of her, she runs with a sense of giddy determination, pouring way more energy in at that point that she does when giving chase. She's got such a desire to please her rider that she'll give every ounce of heart she's got.
