Sam is a very interesting horse. His looks scream Red Herring baby, with the chrome to match from his mother. This chestnut colt has a very interesting personality, he tends to have his moments on certain days. Although he may look innocent, he is far from it. Some days, he will take after his father; running and squealing and breaking out into a frenzy of flying legs. Other days he will be dozing away in the sun, cool as a cucumber as if he doesn't have a care in the world. The funny thing about Sam is that he knows he's the 'class clown' and will often pick up random things and run away with them hanging from the side of his mouth. His tail will be flagged and held high as he trots in circles while the staff run around trying to catch him with a mischievous glint in his eyes. It seems he has picked up his sire's love for rolling around in mud and water. You can always guarantee that Sam's had a mud bath or a nice refreshing roll in the pond just to spite his grooms. It's not like he doesn't necessarily like people, he just finds it extremely fun to annoy and bother the living crap out of them for his personal amusement, and that's what makes him the class clown.
During a race, his clownish attitude is dropped and replaced by looks of sheer determination and grit. Sam's attitude in the paddock is a lot like his parents; he's constantly prancing and moving around. He always has to have two handlers with him because he can become really studdish and stupid at times, and Carter is one of those people. He's not a horse that will intentionally hurt someone, but when Sam gets excited he can really become dangerous. On the track, Sam surprisingly doesn't take after his father's killer stalking position. Instead, he lets the front runners do their business and lead the race, and he settles in behind them around the middle. He doesn't like to get boxed in on the rail, so he stays out two or three wide and runs comfortably there. Since he is more comfortable around the classic distances, Sam hangs around mid pack for three quarters of the race, where he and his jockey will be strategically calculating ways to steal the win from the fading front runners. Being in the middle of the pack helps Sam save his energy, instead of burning it stupidly by gunning straight to the front. He's extremely good at keeping his stamina and using it all towards the end of the race, where he will stick to his two or three wide position and gallop straight to the front like he was meant to do.
