Determination and a competitive nature are two of the things which define this colt. He is determined to be the best, determined to come out on top in everything he does, and doesn't understand what it is to let things slide. If there is a chance for a challenge then he is there, his focus full. It is a trait which has led the staff to believe that the colt will be a very strong racer. The problem is that he sees a challenge in anything and everything. Given half a chance he will race with a plastic bag as it is blown along by the wind.
He loves to run. He loves to let off his high energy levels, and to feel the ground shifting beneath his hooves as the world flies past seems to fill him with a great buzz. In fact, he is never more placid than after he has been on a run. Due to his love to run, and the fact he will tear around the paddock when allowed out means that he should be monitored and never allowed out for too long in case he injures himself.
In general, he could be described as the typical thoroughbred colt. Energetic, highly strung and with a dominant personality. He doesn't like other colts and stallions, but is not yet old enough to show an interest in fillies. Even if he were, we doubt he would be typical in this aspect - at least on the racecourse - due to his high levels of focus when it comes to the track, and racing.
Nebby seems to be some kind of miracle when it comes to the track. He is calm, focused, and scarily well behaved while being handled from the ground. He does not compete with other horses in mental domination, and will generally do as he is asked. Even when it comes to gating, he seems unfazed - almost as if he realizes it is a necessary step if he wants to race which, undoubtedly, he does. He gates well, without fuss, and remains calm in the stall. When the gates open he breaks quickly, and settles right behind the front runners for the majority of the race.
This colt's sheer strength and power is in no doubt when you watch him on the track. He handles the track incredibly well for a horse his age and while he can be a little excitable and headstrong at times he is generally very good on the track. He does not always listen to his jockey as he can become lost in the race but if the jockey is aggressive enough with him he tends to respond.
Having stayed behind the front runners, pushing them throughout the majority of the race, this colt really pushes things up in the stretch. He will find a gap beside a long front runner, or between them if their are multiple front runners and cut between them, powering toward the post. He has a huge heart, a desire to win and determination on his side as he makes his way through the final few furlongs and hates to give an inch in the stretch.
