Indian Night was a horse that caught the eye out on the track. His impressive runs at two and flashy appearance had Ripley thinking of another dappled gray colt from another year and time and the beginning of the new Witch Creek/Battle Brook era. There was just something about the colt that screamed 'special.' He possessed an awareness that most young horses don't, often pausing to take in the large crowds, not out of fear, but out of keen interest. He vanished from the scene after a truly terrific juvenile season, but then reappeared in the spring--not on the track, but in a reclaim sale. Ripley jumped at the opportunity, offering Nick Landing money before the guy could even bat a lash. Indian Night or Nye, as he is now called, was worth every penny. The more mature colt stepped off the van and behaved as if he'd done it all before.
Leg Type: Front-Runner
Nye is a flashy one on the track and in the paddock. He likes to play and exudes his extra energy through prancing and rearing up in the paddock. Not one for standing still, Nye is saddled while on the move. He seems to get stronger and stronger, building up excitement with every minute that passes. On the track, Nye is kept close to his pony. He'll bite at its neck, asserting his dominance, but Battle Brook refuses to send him without company out of fear he'll expend too much energy in the proceedings. Once gated, the colt becomes a fine pro thanks to the excellent bottom put into him by Star Thoroughbreds. He breaks like a shot from the gate and will immediately go to the front. At first, Nye likes to fight his company which is why Reese was picked to ride him. She knows something about willful front runners and has made her career out of getting them to settle down to say the least. Nye settles down in the backstretch, leveling off into a sweet stride and actually starts to listen to his rider's commands. He moves so efficiently that he almost floats. Nye will charge off the final turn like he was shot out of a cannon, often putting many lengths between his rivals before they realize it. His tactical speed and will power are a lethal combination and its clear that if anyone wants to beat him, they're going to have to break records to do it.
