If you aren't confident in the saddle, Gizmo is not the colt for you as he will throw you on the ground before moving away triumphantly. Even for the most experienced rider it is important to ensure that he is properly warmed up before expecting him to work or he just won't behave. He is highly strung, and it takes the right attitude to work well with him.
He's not the greatest with other horses, either. He's not exactly dominant, but he doesn't like others to get into his space and has been known to bite when this happens. He'd rather he on the edge of the herd, or even better - on his own - while out in the pasture and don't even think of putting a pony in with him as he hates them.
Gizmo is awful to lead. His high energy levels lead to him standing on toes, barging handlers out of the way or dragging them to where he wants to go meaning that often there are multiple handlers around when he is being worked. Just in case.

Gizmo loves the track and the feel of the turf under his hooves. It's like he's a different horse as he is brought down to the gates and loaded up with little fuss and when the gates open he breaks nicely. However, it takes several strides for him to really gain his footing and by this stage he is often at, or near to, the back of the pack. Which is perfect for Gizmo, who likes to save his energy for the closing stages of the race.
Gizmo has an impressive closing kick. When the jockey asks it of him he builds up quickly and shoots ride around the rest of the group, thundering down the stretch and wearing his opponents down. His races tend to be close, but impressive.
