Color: Bay
Gender: Filly
Sire: Foundation
Dam: Foundation
Mab was bred on a small farm in southern California and raised in a very hands-on fashion which resulted in a confident youngster that grabbed the attention of Chris Tipton in the sales ring. She sold for a small amount, but price should never be used as an indicator of talent. On arriving at her new home, she was surprisingly calm - coming off of the trailer without fuss - and settled quickly. Mab has certainly proven to be everything she first seemed. She is calm and confident, intelligent and has a tendency to cause trouble in small, unexpected ways. But it’s never malicious, more that she likes to test her boundaries and the people around her. She isn’t a horse to rush outside of a race - she would rather take her time, taking in the things around her and getting a feel for a situation. Mab can be quite aloof with people. She doesn’t seem to like anyone - she’s certainly not the horse which comes seeking attention from people - but she’s not mean either. She’s just a little self-absorbed, and can be tempted with pampering and attention although the moment she feels you want something from her she can turn off quite quickly.
This is a horse that causes no fuss on race day. She is calm and controlled in the parade, if not perhaps a little distracted trying to get a look at her competition, and she likes to be one of the last to load - simply to get more chance to evaluate what she’s up against. But she does load well, remaining calm in the gates, and breaking at a good pace. From here, things can be a little unpredictable. Mab is happy to run just about anywhere on the field - too much speed? She’ll drop back. A lack of control over the pace? She’ll step up. She has a great deal of speed at her command, and the heart of a champion - Mab will not back down, she will fight for glory through every stride in the final stages, and she doesn’t forget. If a horse beat her last time out, she’ll be gunning to get even.
